Rest In Peace Owsley (May 3rd, 2010)
...first off i want to say that i hope all my friends down in the southeast are ok..i haven't heard from everyone yet...

..now, i want to write a few words about our friend Will Owsley... ...as some of you already know, he died tragically and unexpectedly on Friday...for those of you who didn't know him, he was an incredible musician and person...in 1999 he released what is inarguably one of the best modern power-pop records, the self-titled "Owsley"...i have enjoyed that record almost since the day it came out and have said many times that "Oh No The Radio" is probably my favorite power-pop single of all time...i remember the first time i heard it..it was at Bill's Bar in Boston..a band-mate and i were hanging out before they opened with my manger at the time who was a doorman there..he had just gotten an early-copy of the CD.."Oh No The Radio" was the first song he played..i completely loved it the second i heard it...sO melodic, yet there was muscle and swagger behind it - lyrics that had something to say but also managed to not take themselves too seriously...it was precisely what i wanted to be doing...we rocked out in the middle of the empty club that day with our jaws on the floor...i'll never forget it..
..i met Owsley a few years ago and it was a wonderful experience getting to know someone who's music had been an inspiration to me...i had the pleasure of working with Owsley on a few projects, and his talent was always undeniable...but beyond that, he was a very generous and caring person...he let me crash with him in Nashville once and genuinely made an effort to make sure that i was taken care of...over the months that i knew him we would periodically share our new music back and forth, and we'd get into long conversations about bands that we loved, the crazy state of the music industry, our careers, the art and craft of songwriting, and so many other things big and small...he always seemed wild-eyed and ready to take on the world with a boundless creative energy....i was simply shocked to find out that he was gone...a lot of my co-horts were friends with Owsley and we've all been reeling from the news...i've felt many emotions in the last few days..anger, guilt, but mostly sadness at the loss of such a wonderfully interesting man, a true artist...Will, you will be very sorely missed....my heart truly goes out to his family and friends, especially his sons Walker and Liam....
